RESUMO

Spinal cord compression caused by cancer metastasis is a medical emergency that should be managed positively. Both multiple myeloma and lung cancer can lead to metastatic deposits in the spinal column to induce compression of the spinal cord. However, co-occurring multiple myeloma and lung cancer in a single patient causing spinal cord compression are rarely reported in the literature. We describe a case of a 61-year-old female with multiple myeloma and lung cancer whose radiologic characteristics of spinal cord compression mimicked those of metastatic lung cancer. Finally, the diagnosis was multiple myeloma. We showed the systematic imaging manifestations of metastatic multiple myeloma and discussed their therapeutic management.

RESUMO

@#Objective To optimize the expression of recombinant human growth hormone-Fc(rhGH-Fc)fusion protein in CHO cells in order to obtain better glycosylation ratio and lower content of highmannose. Methods CHO cells expressing rhGH-Fc were cultured in a 7 L bioreactor. The glycosylation modifications of rhGH-Fc were adjusted by improving the composition of feeding media(using three commercial media:Gly-1:EX-CELL Glycosylation Adjust,Gly-2:SHEFF-CHO PLUS PG ACF and Gly-3:EfficientFeed C + AGT Supplement & GlycanTune C + Total Feed),and the glycosylation type and proportion of the target proteins were analyzed by mass spectrometry. Results The G0F(main glycosylation types:G0,G1 and G2;F:fucose)of Gly-1,Gly-2 and Gly-3 were 32.89%,58.66% and 33.28%,the G1F were 31.39%,18.03%and 34.90%,and the G2F were 31.39%,18.03% and 34.90%,respectively.Gly-1 and Gly-3 made the target protein contain less G0F while more G2F;Gly-3 feeding scheme-showed less high mannose modification than the other two schemes. Conclusion Gly-1 medium changed the glycosylation modification from G0F to G1F and G2F,while Gly-2 medium changed that from G2F and G1F to G0F.However,Gly-3 medium changed the glycosylation modification from G0F to G1F and G2F,and the contentof high mannose was less than 5%,which may have a better effect on modifying glycosylation type and proportion of the target protein.

RESUMO

Functionalized two-dimensional Ti3C2Tx (TN-EHL) was prepared as an effective adsorbent for removal of methylene blue dye (MB) and copper ions (Cu2+). Enzymatic hydrolysis lignin (EHL), a reproducible natural resource, was used to functionalize the Ti3C2Tx nanosheets. EHL can not only introduce active functional groups into TN-EHL but also prevent the oxidation of Ti3C2Tx, thus promoting the adsorption performance of TN-EHL. The maximum adsorption capacities of TN-EHL50 (in which the EHL content is 50 wt%) for MB and Cu2+ were 293.7 mg g-1 and 49.96 mg g-1, respectively. The higher correlation coefficients (R2) of MB (0.9996) and Cu2+ (0.9995) indicating that their adsorption processes can be described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The MB adsorption data fit the Freundlich isotherm with R2 of 0.9953, whereas the Cu2+ ions adsorption data fit the Langmuir isotherm with R2 of 0.9998. The thermodynamic analysis indicates that the adsorption process of MB and Cu2+ on TN-EHL50 is spontaneous and endothermic. Significantly, the Cu2+ ions were reduced to Cu2O and CuO particles during the adsorption process. Therefore, TN-EHL has a great potential as an environmentally friendly adsorbent for MB removal and recovery of Cu2+ ions from wastewater.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: To date, only 23 cases of Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome with duplex kidney have been reported. We present the first reported case of MRKH syndrome with solitary duplex kidney and anal stenosis. CASE: A 17-year-old Chinese girl presented with primary amenorrhea and fully developed secondary sex characteristics. Ultrasonography of the abdomen and pelvis revealed the absence of the right kidney, a left duplex kidney, and a primordial uterus. Surgery for anal stenosis was performed when she was 1 year of age. The patient had a normal 46, XX karyotype.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: The association of single-nucleotide polymorphisms at X-ray repair cross-complementing group-1 (XRCC1) with osteosarcoma (OS) development has not been fully clear to date. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the association of XRCC1 polymorphisms with risk, clinicopathologic features, and prognosis in Chinese OS patients. METHODS: A total of 146 patients with primary OS and 248 age- and gender-matched controls were included in the present study. The frequencies of four XRCC1 polymorphisms (rs25487, rs1799782, rs25489, and rs3213245) were determined between OS patients and controls. The association of XRCC1 polymorphism with clinicopathologic characteristics, prognosis, and XRCC1 expression was further evaluated. RESULTS: Compared with TT genotype, individuals carrying the minor C allele (TC+ CC) of rs3213245 had significantly increased risk of OS development (OR =1.83, 95% CI 1.14-3.00). OS patients carrying TC genotype and C allele at rs3213245 were more likely to be with larger tumor size and metastasis. Survival analysis demonstrated that OS patients carrying C allele (TC + CC) at rs3213245 had shorter survival time than those with TT genotype. The T to C substitution at rs3213245 could decrease XRCC1 gene transcriptional activity in vitro. XRCC1 mRNA and protein expression levels were lower in OS patients carrying TC or CC genotype at rs3213245. Besides, no significant association of rs25487, rs1799782, and rs25489 with OS was observed. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, these findings revealed that XRCC1 rs3213245 polymorphism was associated with increased risk of OS, which could affect XRCC1 expression in vitro and in vivo.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease mediated by immune cells. Th22 cells are CD4(+) T cells that secret IL-22 but not IL-17 or IFN-γ and are implicated in the pathogenesis of inflammatory disease. The roles of Th22 cells in the pathophysiologic procedures of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) remain unclear. The purpose of this study is to investigate the profile of Th22, Th17 and Th17/Th1 cells in ACS patients, including unstable angina (UA) and acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients. DESIGN AND METHODS: In this study, 26 AMI patients, 16 UA patients, 16 stable angina (SA) patients and 16 healthy controls were included. The frequencies of Th22, Th17 and Th17/Th1 cells in AMI, UA, SA patients and healthy controls were examined by flow cytometry. Plasma levels of IL-22, IL-17 and IFN-γ were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). RESULTS: Th22, Th17 and Th17/Th1 cells were significantly increased in AMI and UA patients compared with SA patients and healthy controls. Moreover, plasma IL-22 level was significantly elevated in AMI and UA patients. In addition, Th22 cells correlated positively with IL-22 as well as Th17 cells in AMI and UA patients. CONCLUSION: Our findings showed increased frequencies of both Th22 and Th17 cells in ACS patients, which suggest that Th22 and Th17 cells may play a potential role in plaque destabilization and the development of ACS.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To understand the situation of downward dislocation of intrauterine device (IUD) and the impact related to the effectiveness of HJD use, in China. METHODS: An epidemiological survey with cross-sectional, retrospective and prospective study designs was conducted to investigate 18,922 IUD users who were selected by a multi-phase stratified cluster sampling method. RESULTS: IUD's downward dislocation had been an important unsuccessful issue related to the IUD insertion that accounted for 20% of total the cases of failure. The top three failure outcomes would include extrusion, removal due to downward dislocation and unintended pregnancy. Respectively, the cumulative rates and the ranking due to IUD failure (per 100 women) in the first, third, sixth and twelfth month were shown as follows: extrusion appeared as 0.33%, 1.13%, 2.21% and 4.30%; removal as 0.10%, 0.37%, 0.80% and 2.34%; while unintended pregnancy were 0.03%, 0.14%, 0.41% and 1.14%. CONCLUSION: IUD's downward dislocation made great impact on the effectiveness of IUD use that should call for attention from relative governmental sectors and researchers in the areas of prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To investigate discrimination against people living with HIV (PLWH) and its impacts. METHODS: Forty people who were either HIV positive (7/40) or had high risk behavior (33/40) were interviewed. Focus group discussion was held in the interview with people who were suspected to be infected with HIV, and in-depth interview was conducted in the survey of HIV positive persons whose privacy was strictly protected to ensure the confidentiality of the collected information. RESULTS: It was identified that six forms of discrimination against people living with HIV occurred in health care service in Gejiu, including speaking to patients in an insulting manner, refusing to provide health care service, delaying treatment, treating differently, uncovering patients' privacy, and over-protecting themselves against patients. Discrimination against people living with HIV greatly affected their health conditions. CONCLUSIONS: Discrimination against people living with HIV in health service has negative impact on their physical and mental health.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To discuss the perioperative management of hemophiliacs A with orthopaedic complications. METHODS: To regulate the injection of factor VIII concentrate in peroperative period by testing the level of factor VIII:C in 27 cases. The lever of factor VIII:C was improved to 30% - 50% at the day before the operation. To the severe patients, it was maintained at 58.5% - 89.3% during the operation and at 47.0% - 78.4% in postoperation. While to the gentle, it was maintained at 38.5% - 52.5% during the operation and at 29.2% - 52.3% in postoperation. The individualized surgical procedures were carried out, such as arthrocentesis, open knee synovectomy or arthroscopic synovectomy, evacuation or curettage of haematoma, debridements, internal fixation. RESULTS: All patients were cured in 14 - 105 days by regulating the injection of factor VIII during the peroperative period. The usage of factor VIII was 1 200 - 70 250 IU. CONCLUSION: While the hemophiliacs have orthopaedic complications, it is necessary to promise the factor VIII:C being maintained at the lever of hemostasis during the peroperative period. The hemophiliacs are endurable to the operation.
